research & development

Since day one, research and development has been a keystone of our company.

It keeps our job exciting. It started with testing products in our own gardens. As we grew into industry leaders, our research and development branch grew with us--into greenhouses, fields, and labs dedicated to learning everything we can about soil and plant nutrition.

Early on, we recognized that we could fill a void in vital scientific research into cannabis and hemp. Oregon’s medical law allowed us to get a head start on studying the needs of this fascinating plant. When recreational cannabis became legal in our home state, we were ready for it and began to conduct our research on a larger scale. We’re currently excited about conducting fertilizer trials for hemp fields and documenting the correlation between inputs and increased CBD levels. Through tissue analysis, controlled studies, and access to an unparalleled array of diverse inputs, we’ve done groundbreaking work. We’re far ahead of the curve in our understanding of cannabis nutrition and growth, and we’re ready to share our learning with the world.

We’ve grown a lot in the past few years, but we believe that sustainable growth is not just physical, but intellectual. This means continuing to encourage our teams of scientists to explore, it means getting geeky with test gardens, and it means listening to you. Some of our intelligence comes not from our labs and greenhouses, but from your gardens. Over the past 20+ years, we’ve been fortunate to develop symbiotic relationships with organic farmers who tell us what’s working, what they need, and the ins-and-outs of what they’ve learned from practical application on a large scale. When matched with our groundbreaking research, this communication allows us to perfect the products that take your gardens and fields to the next level.
